Our Leadership

 Rabbi Matthew Soffer

Matthew Soffer was raised in Cherry Hill, NJ and spent his summers at URJ Camp Joseph and Betty Harlam (Kunkletown, PA).  Matthew received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. Following his undergraduate studies, he worked as an Eisendrath Legislative Assistant Fellow at the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, DC, and from 2003-2005 Matthew worked for the Union for Reform Judaism, as the advisor to the Executive Board of the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY).  During his years at HUC-JIR , Matthew served as Rabbinic Intern at Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, NY (2006-09), where he coordinated social justice activities and organized Brooklyn Jews, the 20s and 30s project of the congregation.  Over the summers, he served as rabbinic resident Temple Israel of Boston and Larchmont Temple in Larchmont, NY.  Last year Matthew interned at Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood, PA (2009-10).  Matthew is a Bonnie and Daniel Tisch Rabbinical Fellow and a fellow of the Kavod Tzedakah Collective.   Matthew lives in JP with his wife Nicole, who is pursuing a masters degree in clinical social work at Smith College.  Matthew plays guitar, loves running, and is an obsessive sports fan.
